Why the Church? Being a married lay graduate lecturer in a local seminary, I am often asked why I chose to work in the Church. People often pose this question with a puzzled expression (as if it was the case that no one chooses to work for the church as a rule). I usually answer: Why did (s)he choose to work in such-and-such an occupation rather than another? Their replies show a pattern: There was a need, an opportunity and, finally, a decision. I kindly remind them that I am no exception.

There have been claims that for the church to achieve administrative or functional efficiency, corporatisation is the answer. Is this consistent with the theology of church?
The question here is really a pastoral not theological issue. Functionally and administratively, the Church has evolved through history.
In the New Testament period, the Church was not really prepared for an indefinite stay in history until this was realised towards the end of the first century C.E. Monepiscopacy – the regional rule by a single bishop – emerges where the earlier rule of the bishopric was together with a presbyterate body since it was more localised.
